My Career Journey
In the beginning of my career, I had no clear sense of my skillset or the direction I wanted to take. The first five to seven years were a period of exploration and discovery, where I tried different paths and learned more about myself with each step. I started in the nonprofit space, experimenting with tools like Google Forms without realizing I was planting seeds for a future in technology. At the same time, I worked in retail at places like Eckerd’s and Harris Teeter, and even considered pursuing a career in accounting. Then, through what felt like a chance encounter with a woman at my church, I was offered a full-time paid internship with the City of Wilmington in North Carolina. That opportunity became the turning point that launched my career in IT and revealed both my knack for technology and my passion for improving processes through it.
